Gifted and Talented Administrators and Counselors Training
This self-directed online course will meet the requirement for six hours of professional development for administrators and counselors that serve gifted students.

 

This course is meant to provide support and basic information to administrators and counselors that oversee the gifted program at their campus.  This course can be used as an introduction for new staff, or as a refresher for staff that would like more support and information about current requirements for GT.

The main objectives of the course include:

  1. Understanding the nature and needs of gifted students through an exploration of characteristics and behaviors of both traditional and non-traditional students.

  2. Understanding the social and emotional needs of gifted students.

  3. Identifying the criteria of the Texas State Plan for Gifted Students and how these standards will guide program decisions.

  4. Alignment of the identification and assessment process as required by the Texas State Plan to the process that is already in place within a district and/or campus.

  5. Understanding and preparing for the responsibilities of an administrator/counselor that oversees the campus GT program.
