Applied Behavior Analysis for Everyone

In this ABA for Everyone course, educational professionals will learn powerful principles and practices from the field of applied behavior analysis (ABA).  Robert C. Pennington, Ph.D., BCBA-D will walk participants through foundational principles in ABA using educational anecdotes, humor, and research examples. He will then show how these principles can be applied as effective teaching and intervention procedures to improve outcomes for students. Dr. Pennington’s experience is in working with students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities, but the workshop content can be applied to all populations.

Intended Audience: Special Education Teachers, General Education Teachers, instructional coaches, parents with students with autism and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities

Education LevelBeginner to Intermediate. Students should have knowledge of the vernacular used in educating students with autism; some knowledge of common tools and processes used to evaluate behavior plans such as the individualized education program (IEP) or behavior intervention plan (BIP). 

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will describe key behavioral principles
  2. Participants will describe several research-based procedures for addressing challenging behavior
  3. Participants will describe several research-based procedures to improve academic/social outcomes.

This course is approved for 6 Continuing Education (CE) hours. Student achievement of the learning objectives will be performed through short essay responses and simple quiz questions. Retrieval of credit will require a short "exit ticket" essay response as well as completion of a short online survey.
